African-Indian confab ends

A two-day African-Indian Academic conference to share new and creative ideas on how to improve the socio-economic development of West Africa has been held in Accra.
The conference was attended by governance experts from India and Ghana, who discussed the theme; “Indian-West Africa: A dynamic relationship and emerging trends”.

It was jointly held by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), the High Commissioner of India to Ghana and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

Delivering the keynote address at the conference, a magazine editor in India, Ambassador Niranjan Desai, stated that there was the need for a new kind of engagement between India and the nations of Africa to respond to a new reality of post-cold war.

He stated that Africa was now free from “super conspiracies which had warped out the development of the states”, for which reason the leaders should be determined to remove the tag of ‘Hopeless Continent’ and put the continent on the path of sustainable development.

He said India had built up considerable expertise over the years in technology and management and had developed the capacity to share its experience with other developing countries in a wide sector.

He added that the “government of India had stressed its determination to create and consolidate strong bonds with African countries based on economic, technological and educational cooperation”.

Ambassador Desai pointed out that India and West African nations shared common views on international issues and were committed to strengthening their relationship in the spirit of South-South cooperation.

He explained that the steady exchange of visits at the political level reflected the growing process of consultations.
