Access Bank launches visa prepaid card

Access Bank Ghana has added the Visa Prepaid card to its bouquet of card products to strengthen its retail banking operations.
The Access Bank Visa Prepaid card is cedi-denominated and allows both customers and non-customers to load cash and use the funds on millions of Visa automated teller machines (ATMs), Point of Sale (POS) devices or used for purchases on the Internet.

The product is targeted at short stay travellers such as Hajj pilgrims, business men and women, students and professionals who pay for professional subscriptions abroad.

The Managing Director of Access Bank, Mr Dolapo Ogundimu, who anounced the new service at the National Hajj Village in Accra, stated that: “with the launch of the Visa Prepaid Card, we are continuing to deliver on our promise of service excellence and innovation to our valued customers.”

He added that the timing of the card was crucial as it gave the over 5,800 pilgrims a safe, reliable and convenient way of keeping and accessing their monies during their stay in Saudi Arabia.

The Chairman of the National Hajj Committee, Alhaji Rauf Tanko, thanked Access Bank for providing the tailor-made products for the convenience of Hajj pilgrims.

He noted that the bank’s support over the past four years had been meaningful and was confident that the committee would continue to partner the bank to support the Hajj programmes and activities in the future.

The Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank, Mr Stephen Abban, said the product had been designed with the ordinary customer in mind, adding that it had been tested and verified by Visa, thus guaranteeing its safety, reliability and convenience.

He said some of the benefits of the card included helping holders to avoid exchange rate losses since they did not have to go through the stress of buying foreign currency and changing it into the local currency of their destination country upon arrival.

In fulfillment of a promise made during the launch of Hajj Payment Points in Tamale a few months ago, Access Bank also donated 5,800 travel pouches to help travelling pilgrims secure their travel documents.

The items formed part of the sponsorship that Access Bank had extended to the Hajj Committee this year alone, which stands in excess of GH¢140,000.
