12 Companies to participate in Izmir Fair

Hauna Idrissu, MInister for Trade and IndustryAbout  12 companies from the country are to participate in this year's Izmir International Fair in Turkey.

The companies are drawn from the pharmaceutical, food and beverage and the cosmetics industries of the economy.

They will be showcasing their products and services to the international business community at the five-day fair, which runs from August 29 to September 3.

The fair is an annual initiative by the Turkish government and is aimed at offering businesses and investors from various countries the opportunity to market their products to the international business community, especially those from Asian and European countries.

Ghana's participation in the event is under the auspices of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), the body mandated to develop and promote the country's non-traditional exports (NTEs).

The Director of Internal Audit at the authority, Mr Stephen Normeshie, told the Daily Graphic in Accra, that the areas of operation of the participating companies were chosen after a research revealed that buyers at the fair would be interested in products from those selected areas.

"We don't normally take a lot of companies there. But even before the selection, we often undertake some research to know what products will be needed at the fair," he stated.

The authority has been organising local companies to participate in the fair, which enters its 82nd year, and Mr Normeshie said the benefits to the country and the participatory companies had been enormous.

"A lot of them always get buyers, business partners and investors. The Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) for instance is currently in talks with a company that wants to buy a lot of their products and that contact was established at a previous Izmir fair," he disclosed.

Given that more Turkish investors are exploring for investment opportunities in the country, the Director of Internal Audit at the GEPA was optimistic the fair would help strengthen economic relations between the two countries.

Already, two trade delegations from Turkey have visited the country since the beginning of this year.
