We won't underrate Kenya - Coach Basigi

The coach of Ghana's senior female football team, Yussif Basigi says they are not taking anything for granted as they face debutants, Kenya, today in their opening game at the Africa Women's Championship.

The game between Ghana's Black Queens and Kenya in Limbe is considered a David and Goliath affair given the history and pedigree of the respective teams in women's football.

Ghana are three times runners up from 11 appearances at this competition while the East Africans are competing for the first time.

The huge difference between them notwithstanding, Coach Basigi insists his side are not underrating the Kenyans who look a well drilled side.

"We paid dearly for trying to underrate Algeria at the 2014 AWC in Namibia. We have learnt our lessons and won't be committing the same mistake in Cameroun," Coach Basigi said at the pre match press conference.

He said they were focused on a game at a time but winning the title remained ultimately their biggest picture.

Captain Safia Rahman Abdul also said their apetite for winning the AWC for the first time had been whetted by their success at last year's All Africa Games in Congo.

" We participated in the All Africa Games for the first time believing we could win and we did. That has boosted our morale and we have a strong feeling Cameroun will be an equally good tournament for us."

The Queens versus Cameroun game will be the second in Group B after the Nigeria, Mali game at 4:00pm.
