Trustees defeated arch-rivals Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) 3-2 on penalties after settling for 1-1 draw during a nerve- racking match to claim the men’s title.

Police Ladies on the other hand wrenched victory from league leaders GRA Ladies after a nerve-racking 4-3 penalty shoot-out after settling for a barren draw during regulation time.

On their way to the finals, Trustees beat Exchequers 5-2 on penalties, after settling for a 1-1 draw during regulation time, GRA defeated Police 4-1.

On their way to winning the title, Police Ladies beat Reformers 1-0 to set up a date with GRA who had defeated Extinguishers 3-0.

However, there was an anticlimax in the final of the Masters event as Multisticks won the trophy without hitting the ball following the withdrawal from the match by their opponents Sapholda.

Hockey fans were glued to their seats in anticipation of an exciting final clash, but their expectations were dashed when Sapholda walked off the pitch in protest, complaining that Multisticks had fielded an unqualified player without going through due process.

The organisers, therefore, declared Multisticks winners of the game and handed them the trophy at stake.

On their way to the final, Multisticks defeated NDK Financiers 2-0, while Sapholda beat Citizens International 2-0. In an exhibition match between KN Owusu XI and John Atta Mills XI, who featured Sam Kofi Atta Mills (son of the late President) as a guest player, a 13th minute strike by Alex Amanquanor was what separated the two sides as KN Owusu XI won the trophy at stake.

In a remark, Sam Atta Mills commended the Ghana Hockey Association for supporting him to organise the annual tournament in honour of the late President Mills to promote hockey in the country.

He also commended the sponsors for their initiative and gave an assurance that the competition would whip up interest in hockey among the youth with the view to unearthing and grooming talents for Ghana.
