Thrills at Achimota Homowo Golf - As Frank, Lynn top all

Dr Frank Adu  and Madam Lynn Mitchell became the toast of golf fans at the Achimota Golf Park last Saturday when they won their respective  tournaments (in the men’s and ladies groups) and the prizes at stake .

While Dr. Adu had a net score of 77 to win the giant trophy at stake in the Homowo Special Golf tournament organised as part of the Homowo festival being celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Ga traditional area, Madam Michell won the ladies version with a net score of 69.

For her efforts she also became the owner of a glittering and magnificent trophy.

Messrs Tony Mintah and Emmanuel Quarcoo, who had a net score of 72 and 74, placed second and third respectively in the men’s Group A division, and received trophies for their efforts.

In the ladies Group A division, Madam Aku Yabah and Mary Prempeh had net scores of 72 and 73 to win the second and third positions respectively.

In the  men’s Group B, division, Mr. Kwadwo Ampomah, who had a net score of 67, was declared winner and presented with the trophy at stake. The second and third positions went to Messrs Jingak Chung and Amin Manekia .

In the ladies Group B, Christine Furler emerged winner with a net score of 75, as against Peace Akwei and Mariah Bah who had a net score of 86 and 91 respectively.

Other golfers who received prizes for their outstanding performances were Dr. Harold Agbenu and Madam Mary Prempeh.

Both were rewarded for coming out with the longest drives in their respective groups during the Homowo Special tournament.

The tournament, which  was keenly contested with about 100 golfers  participating and eager to win the prizes at stake, saw Mr. Roy Calvert and Madam Jane Nelson recognised for driving to the nearest pin.

Commenting on the tournament, the Secretary of the Achimota Golf Club, George Yaw Amoah, commended the golfers for their competitive spirits, saying they had proved that they were in love with the chiefs and people of the Ga traditional area and their traditions.

He said the invitational tournament was over-subscribed, forcing them to increase the holes to meet the demands of the golfers.

“We really appreciate and recognise the Homowo festival, hence our preparedness to organise such prestigious tournaments in several categories and the response was marvelous”, he explained.
