According to him, his gym has begun training more than 50 street kids daily and is hopeful that by next year, they would have trained a huge number.

“I had wanted to make this gym a community gym, to help the youth, and I am close to achieving that next year,” Coach Addy told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

The boxing trainer added that the focus of the sport must begin with talent hunt, with a lot of attention devoted to grooming talented children in the communities.

A former boxer himself, Coach Addy noted that amateur boxers in the country deserved serious attention and much more training than they were being given, adding that his gym would work towards directing a lot of efforts at grooming amateur boxers.

“We believe in young talents and honing the skills of genuine boxers for the attainment of a world champion,” said the 48-year-old trainer who promised to use his gym to revolutionise boxing in Ghana.

Currently, there are seven boxers training at The Gym, including 18-year-old amateur Peter Pappoe and 19-year-old Mohammed Mubarak who are expected to become professionals by the end of the year.
