Tennis: Ghana hosts Nigeria

A team of experienced Ghanaian tennis stars are bracing up for a day’s international tennis action against their counterparts from Nigeria at the Burma Camp Tennis Club (BCTC) tomorrow.

They are AVM Kadri, Lt Dr Ralph Ntumy, Brigadier General George Adjei (retd), Chief Nyankamawu, Colonel Amuzu, Ing John Danso, Ing George Aidoo, Gregory Addah, Charles Duodoo, Ing Ibrahim Seidu, Akwasi Nuamah and Alhaji Yusif Amudu

The Ghanaian team won last year’s competition to bring the number of triumphs over their Nigerian counterparts to three out of five meetings.

The tennis competition between players of the two countries is the sixth edition and it is held annually to commemorate the Independence anniversary celebrations of Ghana as well as that of Nigeria.

The event is being sponsored by CDH, Baj Freight, Ghana Commercial Bank, Guinness Ghana Limited, Everpack Water, Kasapreko and MTN Ghana.

At a media briefing in Accra yesterday, both teams vowed to lift the giant trophy at stake.

A veteran who features for the Ghanaian team and a member of the organising committee, Colonel Obibah John Kuseh promised a tough and exciting tournament and gave the assurance that Ghana would defend the title.

A member of the Nigerian team, AVM Ataodi, for his part promised to silence the Ghana team at their own backyard, saying  “What happened last year will not repeat itself because we are here to win this trophy and send it back to Nigeria”.
