Taekwondo awards at Silverbird Saturday

This year’s ‘I love taekwondo’ video contest awards will take place on Saturday at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall, at 1:00pm

The annual video contest, which was initiated by the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) last year, is sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Rana Motors.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GTF, Adnan Lamptey, briefing the Graphic Sports, invited all registered taekwondo clubs in the country to submit a three-minute video based on a story with the title “How Taekwondo Changed My Life” or a video showing a self-created taekwondo dance, also referred to as taekwondo aerobics.

Mr Lamptey disclosed that 41 clubs participated in the contest which was part of the competition requirements uploaded their videos on YouTube with titles prefixed ‘I Love Taekwondo’.

He said 20 out of the 41 clubs made it to the first round and will vie for the gold, silver and two bronze positions through balloting. This, he said, will be followed by a selection exercise by a panel of judges during the awards event.

Mr Lamptey said all 20 clubs will be given 15 taekwondo uniforms each, while the first four clubs to be selected out of the 20 by the judges will receive additional prizes, including protective gears, training equipment and manuals.

He added that the club which wins the gold will, in addition, carry away the coveted taekwondo mat (full plastic ring) worth thousands of US dollars.

As part of the awards ceremony, the videos will be played on the cinema screen as judges award marks to select the best four videos.

Last year’s event was won by Mamfe Methodist Girls High School, followed by the Ghana Prisons Taekwondo Club and WAM Taekwondo Academy respectively.
