The Tamale Stadium has proved to be a fortress for the Stars in recent times following successes chalked up during the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and the choice of the venue for this crucial Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying game is a step in the right direction.

The high morale in camp, coupled with the massive home support, could be the needed tonic for the Stars to outshine the stubborn Cranes in this crucial encounter.

However, recent developments on the continent have shown that there are no more minnows in the game anymore, hence the Cranes, who received some morale booster from President, Yoweri Museveni, before emplaning to Tamale for the match would not be an easy to beat.

This was succinctly admitted in an interview by Coach Avram Grant in the last edition of this paper that the Cranes would be a tough one but he expected his team to deliver.

The assessment of the coach meant that the Stars have a lot of work to do to ensure a convincing win to establish their status as one of the powerhouses of football on the continent.

Coach Grant, who has his full squad in camp, except deputy skipper, Andre Dede Ayew, who has been sidelined by injury, cannot afford to slip on such an occasion where Ghanaians expect a flying start to another World Cup journey.

Skipper Asamoah Gyan, who has recovered just in time for this all-important match, is raring to go as the commander of the side, promising not to let the nation down this afternoon.

He said he was about 90 per cent fit for the match, and was hoping to get the necessary support from from his deputy Ayew (from the sidleines) and team mates to go all out to give Ghanaians something to celebrate ahead of the titanic clash against Egypt next month.
