"Stars B in good shape" - But exodus trend worrying

Handlers of Ghana’s senior football team B, say they are in good shape for their 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifier against Burkina Faso, but are worried that they could soon lose most of their targeted key players to the exodus train.

The Stars B, since reassembling under the reconstituted technical team headed by Kwasi Appiah, are yet to lose a game as they gear up for the August 12 date with the Burkinabes in Ouagadougou, but the concern is that there may never be a permanent regular team, given the rate of movement of the players in search of greener pastures outside the shores of Ghana.

Last Wednesday, the Stars recorded another win, this time, beating Elmina Sharks 1-0 in their trial at the Nduom Stadium and assistant coach, Maxwell Konadu was happy with the output of the players.

“We are focused and I’m happy about the performance. It’s not just about the result, but what we put in and I can say that it was a good exercise.

“We are taking nothing for granted against Burkina Faso as we intend to maintain a clean record in the campaign, our concern is whether we can rely on the team we are building as every now and then, a player penciled for a role leaves for outside Ghana,” Konadu told the Graphic Sports.

According to Konadu, who has mostly been in charge as his boss, Kwasi Appiah has been away on scouting duties for the main Black Stars, that uncertainty about the player movement could affect the effort of building a consistent team and said it was important a solution was found to the problem.

“The situation of player movement is compelling us to build our team with uncertainty because you never know who will next join the bandwagon. “We are however, trying to talk them out of it and assuring them that they could land better deals if they made it to the CHAN. We hope that is convincing enough to make them stay till the end of the qualifiers, at least”.

Though Konadu will not name the players who have been lost under such circumstance, Graphic Sports gather that Richard Arthur has left for Angola, Abdul Bashir of Dreams FC has left for Kosovo and Majeed Ashimero of WAFA is also on trials in Belgium while his teammate Razak Abalora has also joined Tanzania side, Azan FC. The Stars’ build up have seen them play and win against The Gambia, Niger and Togo.
