Starlets will end world Cup drought

Coach Paa Kwasi Fabin has resolved to ensure that the Black Starlets win the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in India in October despite the difficult working conditions he has endured over a long time.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports at the team's training base at Prampram in the Greater Accra Region yesterday, Coach Fabin was optimistic of finishing the task of winning the World Cup with the Black Starlets in India.

"Despite the odds and not being paid my camping allowance or training stipends, I am determined to win the World Cup with the Starlets," stated the coach, who revealed that he had not received any salary for the last two years.

He added that the team would embark on a training tour of Denmark on August 31 to engage some youth teams there.

"We will also go to Spain and face off with Iraq who are also participating in the World Cup before flying to India," he disclosed.

Coach Fabin noted that the team had been beefed up with some experienced players from the West Africa Football Union (WAFA) and some young talents from Right to Dream (Academy).

"We have a young striking talent, Richard Danso, from WAFA and goalkeeper Michael Acquaye to beef up the team," he stated.

He said three other players -- Stephen Saddick (goalkeeper), Abu Sarkodie (winger) and defender Gideon Mensah from Right to Dream -- will complete the list before the training tour.

According to the coach he has learnt a lot from the Africa Championships in Gabon and will use that as a yardstick to make the team more formidable.
