Starlets undergo MRI test ahead of Africa U-17 tourney

Paa Kwesi Fabin, coach of Ghana’s Under-17 male football team, the Black Starlets, believes the players he has selected for this year’s African Youth Championship will be able to at least deliver a World Cup ticket as they have already been given an orientation on the task ahead.

Coach Fabin said this when he submitted his list for the mandatory MRI tests conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) medical team, ahead of the African Under-17 competition to be staged in Gabon from May 14 to 28 which will also determine the four teams that will represent Africa at the World Championship later this year.

“I think gradually, we are getting an all-round team. I have confidence in the boys who will represent Ghana at Gabon. They know the task ahead and they are psyching themselves up for it,” Coach Fabin told the Daily Graphic.

Last Friday, CAF medical team, led by Professor Dah from Cote d’Ivoire, was in Accra to conduct the test which was a mandatory requirement for the competition.

And Coach Fabin believes his team will this time avoid the unfortunate incident that befell them two years ago, when some of his key players failed the medical test.

As a precaution, the medical team of the Starlets had themselves conducted their MRI tests, before the arrival of the CAF medical team.

The Black Starlets last week beat Niger 2-0 in their two international friendlies played at the Accra Stadium on Monday and Thursday respectively.

Ghana will play in Group A alongside hosts Gabon, Cameroun and Guinea when the competition kicks off.
