Sharks hold All Stars in Wa

Ghana's champions, Wa All Stars, looked a far cry of the team that achieved the unlikely last season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Premier League debutantes, Elmina Sharks, at the Wa Stadium yesterday.

The once dominant All Stars team, which defied the odds to win the Ghana Premier League (GPL) in their ninth season in the elite league, looked too ordinary to compare to the side that beat all their closest rivals on their way to the title triumph.

At best, they flattered to deceive, and although for about 40 minutes they looked to be coasting to victory, their 10th minute strike by Richard Arthur never looked a comfortable lead until Sharks struck even on the 50th minute through substitute Prince Boateng.

Indeed,  Arthur opened the scoring for All Stars with a simple tap-in when he benefitted from Kelvin Andoh's brilliant footwork in the penalty area of Sharks.

Before then, they had threatened with a crisp passing game as the visitors struggled to settle.

But once they did, Sharks proved the better team by far. With early substitute Felix Addo and Samuel Arthur working the flanks, and Martin Dzilah threatening through the middle, the equaliser did not seem too far away.

It was, however, against the run of play in the second half when All Stars appeared to recover a bit of their title-winning form that Sharks struck.

All Stars were without majority of their title-winning squad, but the single draw from four matches, including on the international stage caused a few fans to demand the sack of Coach Enos Kwame Adepah.
