Security to be upped for President’s Cup match

Security will be beefed up at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi due to the expected presence of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at this Year’s President’s Cup between Ghana’s biggest clubs, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak,  on Sunday.

He and a host of ministers of state are expected to grace the match, annually organised by the Ghana League Clubs Association of Ghana (GHALCA), to celebrate Ghana’s republican status.

An executive  member and spokesperson for GHALCA, Barima Otuo-Acheampong (Sometymer), yesterday told the media in Kumasi that the President was expected to be in attendance at the game which is also to honour so there was the need to step up security.

“Fans should come to the stadium early as the security arrangement may not be convenient if people came late.”

The GHALCA spokesperson also revealed that the winner of the match would receive the trophy at stake,  GH¢10,000.00 as  well as medals.

Already, each of the competing clubs have received an appearance fee of GH¢50,000 each to prepare for the big game as Kotoko plans to avenge an earlier defeat in the year.

It would be the third time the two clubs would be meeting in the year with Hearts having the upper hand with a win.

Otuo-Acheampong said a host of local entertainers would be lined up to liven up the atmosphere and to spice the day, all in a bid to provide fun and entertainment for spectators.

Already, the CHALCA executives have been flooding Kumasi radio stations, whipping up interest and to urge fans to throng the stadium on Sunday.

UBA is the headline sponsor for this year’s competition, with four other auxiliary sponsors. They are StarTime, ANFD, Nii Cudjoe and Associates and Dechris.

The gate fee for the Popular Stands go for GH¢5.
