Relegation, Euro blues for Waris, Dede Ayew

Ghanaian international, Abdul Majeed Waris is fighting hard to keep his French side in the Ligue 1 while Andre Dede Ayew’s Marseille are also struggling to grab a ticket for next season’s Europe competition.

Waris maintained his scoring form for Valenciennes, netting twice aginst Ajaccio, but his goals were, unfortunately not enough as they went down 2-3 in their league encounter last Saturday night.

Waris put Valenciennes ahead six minutes after the break and again in  72minute through a penalty after Benjamin Andre had cancelled out his opener just after the hour mark.

Valenciennes went into the game very aware of the importance it deserved, as they pushed for their relegation survival and after failing to find the net in the entire first half, the 22-year-old Black Stars striker gave them the lead and then his second to register his seventh goal since joining Valenciennes on loan from Russia’s Spartak Moscow.

Dede Ayew was unable to find the net despite starring for Marseille last Saturday.

The former champions’ bid to play in Europe next season continued to stutter, as they fell  0-1  at home to Rennes.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the only goal in the 76th minute to earn Rennes their eighth Ligue 1 win of the season and halt a three-game losing run.

Marseille have yet to pick up a win this month following defeats to Paris Saint-Germain, Nice and a 1-1 draw against Reims, and lie sixth in the standings.
