Razak, Kizito power Hearts into final

Patrick Razak and Kwame Kizito extended their recent fine form exhibited in the just-ended WAFU Cup to the domestic competition as they powered Accra Hearts of Oak into the final of the MTN FA Cup after defeating Wa All Stars 2-1 in the semi-final clash played at the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi yesterday.

Razak, who earned Ghana two penalties in the WAFU Cup final against Nigeria was on the score sheet just as Kizito — who scored two goals for the Black Stars B — to ensure the Phobians reached the MTN FA Cup final for the first time since the competition returned in 2011.

However, the Phobians would have to wait for their opponents after the second semi-final between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC was rained off at the same venue.

Hearts’ goals were scored in either half, with Razak opening the scoring in the 29th minute when he connected a through pass from his skipper, Thomas Abbey, to beat All Stars goalie, Rashid Seidu.

From then on, it was a ding-dong game with the Hearts goalie, Ben Mensah, called to duty on more than two occasions to save the day for his side.

The Phobians dominated the game throughout the game and could have had a goal harvest but were denied by their lacklustre finishing.

From recess, Wa All Stars rather slowed down their game and allowed Hearts more room to operate. It came as no surprise when Kizito increased the tally five minutes into the second half.

Late into the game, Samuel Atta Mensah, who came on for Kelvin Mathew Andoh, announced his presence when he scored the most beautiful goal of the game in the 69th minute. But it was only worth a consolation goal for the defending Premier League champions as the Phobians held on to their lead.

Midfielder Malik Akowuah of Hearts was voted the best player of the game.

Meanwhile, Kotoko and Medeama will return to the Len Clay stadium this afternoon to replay their match which was called off after 20 minutes of action.

Central referee Mohammed Awal called off the match after confering with the Match Commissioner, Samuel Aboagye, and the two opposing coaches who all agreed that the match should be postponed because of the intensity of the rainfall which made ball control and visibility difficult.
