Ghana’s Black Queens will do whatever it takes to qualify for this year’s African Women’s Championship to be held in Namibia, and this weekend, they face their most stern test.

They will have to clear Ethiopia in the final qualifying hurdle to book their tickets for the October  competition which will also serve as a World Cup qualifier for the 2015 Women’s World Cup (WWC).

The two teams hardly meet in competitive football, but when they do, Ghana almost always end up winning. In women’s football, however, the story is different.

The last time they met in a qualifier for the 2012 Olympic Games, the Ethiopians won in Addis Ababa and held Ghana’s Black Queens to a 1-1 draw at home, denying the Queens the chance to go to the London Games.

Wary of the threat they pose, Coach Yussif Basigi has taken nothing for granted and spent the last five days preparing his team in Addis Ababa.

“It has been a week of good preparation and everyone is in high spirit. I’ve never seen my girls so confident about an away match as they are feeling now.

” Coach Basigi told the Graphic Sports in a telephone interview.

With the likes of Portia Boakye, Ama Saabi, Faiza Ibrahim all part of that squad that lost in the 2012 Olympic qualifier, still in the team, Sunday’s game to be played at the National Stadium could be revenge time for Ghana as they have promised to take the fight to their hosts.
