The Princesses yesterday, beat Kenya 5-1 in their second leg in Nairobi to end the second round tie on an aggregate of 10-1 having won the first leg 5-0 in Cape Coast two weeks ago to keep their campaign to qualify for the 2018 WWC in France on course.

A brace from Olivia and Anokye and Princella Adubea respectively, as well as the fifth from Ernestina Abambila, did not only ensure that the Princesses advanced in a convincing manner, but also maintained their high-scoring form, scoring 20 goals in four matches in this qualifying campaign.

Adubea also joined Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade at the top scorers’ chart with seven goals.

Having won the first leg 5-0, the Princesses stormed Nairobi looking for another win and took the lead as early as the third minute through Anokye who capitalised on a poor defensive clearance.

Adubea scored a double before the first half ended, with Anokye getting her third for the day before Abambila completely sealed victory to stun the Kenyans who were hoping to at least keep a respectable scoreline at home if they could not beat the well-drilled Princesses.

The victory now pitches the Princesses against Cameroun in the third and final round, the Cameronians hosting the first leg on January 12, 2018 with the second leg in Ghana on January 26, 2018.

Coach Yusif Basigi described the victory as ‘mission accomplished’ as their plan worked to perfection.

“We went to Kenya looking for a good win. The Kenyans were a good side, but had an unsettled defence which we exploited to our advantage.

“Now we return to prepare for the final game against Cameroun as that will be the real test.”
