Powers ready to fight Banku or Bastie

Veteran boxer Michael "Powers" Ayitey has proposed to fight the winner of the upcoming "Make-or-Break" bout between Braimah Kamoko and Bastie Samir tomorrow.

Powers, who lost twice to Banku, said he was assured by the promoter of the bout, Alex Ntiamoah Boakye of the Box Office Sports Promotion, that he would be up for another payday with either Bastie or Banku, depending on who wins on the night.

With Banku being tipped to carry the night due to his rich experience in the sport, it is not certain he will fight Powers for the third time in three years, should he win tomorrow.

"I am ready to fight the winner of the Bukom Banku and Bastie Samir fight because that was what the promoter told me and I am waiting," he told the Graphic Sports in an interview yesterday.

Powers was spotted at the Bukom Boxing Arena trying to catch a glimpse of Banku and Bastie’s opening training sessions but was met with boos from supporters of Banku who claimed he was supporting Bastie.

When this paper enquired about why he was being jeered by Banku's supporters, Powers said that was unfortunate, while insisting that he was just being targeted.

He said he was not in support of any particular boxer but wanted the better fighter to win on the night.

"It is rather unfortunate that Banku's supporters decided to hoot at me for doing nothing just because they don't want to see me with anybody from Bastie's camp.
"I am not supporting any particular boxer in this fight and all I want is to see the better boxer win the fight," he added.

In a quick rebuttal, Banku's trainer, Biney Geoffery, alias Wadaada, stated that his boxer would never fight Powers again, should he win, because he had nothing new to bring on board.
