Portugal isn’t a place for big money — Nsor

Young Ghanaian striker, Kwame Nsor, has cautioned young players not to dream of making big money if they do not play for any of the top four clubs in Portugal.

There are over 20 Ghanaian players in Portugal now and the number keeps increasing in each transfer window as the European country suits African footballers.

Nsor, who signed for second-tier side Académico Viseu FC last week as a free agent after leaving Uniao Leira, insists the Iberian country is a good developing ground for young footballers and not a place they should dream of making big money.

“The Portuguese league is not a place you can earn lots of money if you are not playing for the top 4 teams but it is a league that gives more exposure and scouts from clubs all over Europe always watch to get talents,” Nsor told the Graphic Sports

“Last season, I was playing in the top flight for Uniao Leira and I netted 16 Primeira Liga goals. I was on the verge of joining Moreirense as a free agent but the deal collapsed so I had to wait for this offer,”

The former Ghana Under-17 and Under-20 striker has played in Germany for Kaiserslautern Metz in France, as well as Seraing in Portugal.

He highlighted that the Portuguese league deals with flair and technique.

“You have to be good with the ball at your feet and be technically good before you can succeed in Portugal; the only league which comes near it is the Bundesliga. For France and Belgium, they deal with much physique.”

Nsor was the arrowhead of the Black Starlets in 2009, as well as the Black Satellites in 2011, and though he was the team’s leading scorer in both campaigns, they could not make it to the World Cup.
