Player exodus cost us - Dramani

Black Queens coach, Mas Ud Didi Dramani, believes the exodus of players cost Ghana’s qualification to the Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) competition slated for Kenya next year.

The 51-year-old former Real Tamale United and Ebusua Dwarfs player said the bane of the technical handlers was the continued transfer of local talents to leagues in other parts of the world.

Reacting to the team’s disappointing performance at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday in an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, the former Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach stated that “the coach had difficulty of player exodus at a very crucial moment which could have depleted the strength of the team”.

Dramani who guided Kumasi Asante Kotoko to a back-to-back league titles between 2012-2014 league seasons, however, urged Ghanaians to tone down their criticisms of the coaches since they would have ignored the challenges the team faced had they qualified for the competition.

Coach Dramani said this was the time the coaches and technical directors needed the support of everybody in order to come up with “development ideas and the necessary transition of database of youth players” to help develop a formidable team for the future.

The 2014 FA Cup coach of the year  said even countries with very strong local leagues missed out of the competition and warned against a wholesale change of the players, which he said could prove detrimental to the future development of the team.

The new Black Queens coach recommended a double tier plan for the team - development and result - where young players from the Under-20 are promoted as was done in the case of Nuhu and Isaac Twum.

Dramani, who holds CAF Senior Coaches Instructor and Assessor certificate said, “We need to define the right objectives in terms of what we want to achieve and build on from there so we don’t always come out of a qualifying competition counting the cost”.
