Ping-pong League: Spinners, Immigration in titanic clash

Two of the nation’s best table tennis players, Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey, will come face to face with two of Nigeria’s best kept secret -- Rilwan Akanbi and Ahmed Bello -- as leaders Tesano Spinners clash with defending champions Immigration in the week’s top fixture of the Stanbic Bank/Graphic Sports Table Tennis League at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The match is between the competition’s top two sides, with the top position being up for grabs.

Defending champions, Immigration, are currently second with 55 points, two points behind Spinners.

The Immigration lads are bent on reclaiming the top spot from Spinners and will look up to team captain Derek Abrefa as they seek to avenge the 2-3 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Tesano lads in the first round.

But the league leaders have other ideas with Akanbi telling the Graphic Sports they would do everything possible to ensure a decisive victory to maintain their position on top of the log.

In the other first encounters, Team Coach Addo will meet Madina Stars, Ashaiman Club clash with Army, Police engage Ashanti Otumfuo Stars, while Synergy take on Team Baboo.

The rest of the matches will witness clashes between Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Easter Loopers, Kings Royal Academy against Fire Service, and Western Table Tennis Club versus Ghana Navy.

The second encounter of the day pits Kings Royal Academy against Western Table Tennis Club, GRA versus Fire, Police meet Eastern Loopers, while Navy and Synergy get a bye.

In other matches, Ashaiman Club face off with Ashanti Otumfuo Stars, Team Coach Addo against Team Baboo, Spinners clash with Army and Immigration clash with Madina Stars.

The third encounters of the day will see Ashaiman Power Club playing against Eastern Loopers, Tesano Spinners versus Ashanti Otumfuo Stars and Madina Stars versus Team Baboo.

The rest of the matches involve Immigration against Army, Synergy versus Navy, while Team Coach Addo get a bye.

Police will meet Fire, GRA against Western, while Kings Royal get a bye.

In the women’s competition, Tesano Spinners and Army get a bye, Ashanti Otumfuo Stars play Madina Stars, Team Coach Addo versus Navy, GRA versus Western, and Immigration versus Police.
