‘Persuade Gruzah to withdraw case’

A former vice chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Yaw Owusu, has called on the FA to seek a quick intervention to persuade Alhaji Karim Gruzah to withdraw his court case rather than increasing  the number of participating teams to accommodate King Faisal in the league .

Bemoaning the late start of this year’s First Capital Plus Premier League as a result of the pending court case and its socio-economic implications on the participating teams during an interview with the Graphic Sports, Nana Yaw Owusu said  should the case travel its full course, Ghana soccer will be the eventual loser.

“Alhaji Gruzah may have genuine grievances for initiating the court action against the FA, but the league cannot wait for the case to travel its full course. That is why the FA should find an amicable settlement for the league to start as soon as possible,” he advised.

Expressing concern about the legal battle between the two parties, he said the situation was not only making the players to be inactive but was also creating financial crises for the clubs.

“As the legal battle continues, our players will be idle and eventually lose form. This is because they are not playing competitive matches locally, so what then will be the criteria for their selection into the national teams for them to participate in international matches? he questioned.

On the financial implications, Nana Yaw Owusu, who was once a player of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, said notwithstanding the court case, the various managements were mandated to honour the monthly salaries of their players as long as the legal battle continued.

“Where can they generate such revenue to pay the players? This legal battle is not good for Ghana soccer and that is why it should end now for our league to commence,” he stated.
