Olympics to play for pride

With qualification to the elite league already sealed for Accra Great Olympics, there would be very little motivation when they take on Istanbul FC in their final round of matches in the Dvision One League (DOL) at the Fire Service Park on Sunday.

Victory for either side would have no bearing as far as qualification is concerned but head Coach of Olympics, Godwin Attram, is hoping to finish on a high note having steered the team from a difficult terrain at the beginning of the season to the summit of the league log.

Although the outcome would not have any significant impact, but victory is expected to kick-start a befitting after-party for Attram and his charges who have worked so hard throughout the season just to return to the top flight.

Olympics would be chasing their 21st victory and to complete the season as the only club in the Division One League to have achieved that feat, but ninth-placed Istanbul is determined to frustrate them and ensure they do not achieve that record.

They have vowed to unleash some of their best players on the Accra-based side to ensure they return home the happier side, but Attram believes Istanbul is no-match for them and they are ready to dispatch them home in misery.

It would also send a strong signal to teams in the elite league that Olympics are in for business this time around after flirting with relegation on three different occasions and that Attram’s charges would not be an easy push-over but would give city rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, a run for their money.

Experienced ex-Black Stars defender, Dan Quaye and Maxwell Nii who scored twice against Mighty Jets last weekend, together with his charges would help coach Attram complete the season in grand style by helping to beat Istanbul FC in front of their home fans to kick start the party.

Despite not qualifying to the premiership, former Premier League campaigners, Heart of Lions, are expected to give their fans something to cheer about when they host Danbort FC at the Kpando Park.

In other fixtures, Tema Youth would have no mercy at relegation-bound King Solomon when they play at the Tema Sports Stadium, while Roberto FC and Nania FC would provide the fans of Sogakope a lot to cheer about when the two teams battle it out.

Pure Joy FC will trek to Kweiman to encounter Vision FC and the Oda Park is where Kotoku Royals have vowed to make life uncomfortable for Mighty Jets.

FA Cup finalists, Okwawu United, will clash with Sporting Mirren at the Nkawkaw Park and at Old Tafo, Okyeman Planners will encounter Amidaus Professionals.
