National players need education — Coach Lutterodt

Deputy local Black Stars coach, Dauda Solomon Lutterodt, has called for the regular organisation of sporting competitions for the youth in schools.

According to him, such competitions will identify talents and nurture them for future national competitions.

He contended that providing  education opportunities for young sports talents was the best means of grooming them for the big stage in the future.

“Sports must be organised in the schools. It is necessity as it keeps the youth away from social vices and gives them the opportunity to combine education with sports.

The former Accra Great Olympics coach was the guest of honour at  a two-day sports festival organised by De Youngsters International School for its five affiliates in the Greater Accra Region at the El-Wak Stadium. The 14th biennial sports festival saw the De Youngsters International School branches at Kokomlemle, Kokomlemle Annex, Ring Road Central (RCC), Adenta and Kotobabi compete for medals and trophies in soccer, table tennis, volleyball, sack race, tug-of-peace and lime and spoon competitions.

Adenta Primary came first in the primary division with 150 points, RCC placed second with 98 points, while Kokomlemle, Annex and Kotobabi came third, fourth and five respectively.

In the junior high school category, RCC Team B emerged  champions with 215 points, RCC Team A came second with 155 points, while Adenta Team A came third with 134 points.

A young energetic speedster from Adenta, Tracy Ansong, was adjuged the best athlete in the primary category, while Rebecca Asiedu won the best athlete award in the junior high category.
