MTN FA Cup Round of 16: Ashgold host Inter Allies

The quest for domestic double honours by Premier League leaders AshantiGold face a strong challenge on June 3 when they come face to face with Tema-based Inter Allies in the last eight of the MTN FA Cup at the Len Clay Stadium.

While the Ashgold-Inter Allies clash looks the most attractive fixture of the Round of 16 stage, Accra Hearts of Oak will got things started for a semi-final place as they take on Tamale Utrecht at the Tema stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians reached this stage after eliminating Elmina Sharks, Bolga Man City and Afienya City while Utrecht qualified after eliminating premiership sides Bechem United and BA United, and Division Two club, Starke FC.

Next Wednesday, the Soccer Miners will hope to ride on their impressive performances in both the league and FA Cup as they hope to crush the Tema lads who pose a credible threat to the ambitions of Coach Bashir Hayford’s side.

In reaching the last eight of the competition, the Obuasi-based club eliminated Kumasi Cornerstone and WAFA, while Inter Allies accounted for King Solomon and Proud United.

Ashgold are likely to feature players such as Lawrence Lartey, Joshua Tijani, Joseph Ato Bissah and leading marksman Mohammed Yakubu to propel the team into the next stage of the competition.

Other fixtures on Wednesday will see Kumasi Asante Kotoko reignite their rivalry with the Division One side Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Stadium, while Great Astronomers take on Medeama.

Also, the winner of the Round of 16 match between Aduana Stars and Istanbul which ended abruptly will be decided after the Disciplinary Committee adjudicates on the matter.
