Liberty, others in relegation dogfight

It is now certain that the two giants of Ghana Football, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have missed out of the championship of the Premier League with Wa All Stars almost crowned as champions of this year’s competition.

And as the curtains draw down on this season’s league on Sunday, the battle to escape relegation would be the main attraction as it is unclear which team would join Hasaacas and New Edubiase to the lower division next season.

Inter Allies, Ebusua Dwarfs, Techiman City, Berekum Chelsea and Liberty Professionals are all candidates likely to join the already relegated sides with the main focal point likely to be the game between Bechem United and Liberty Professionals.

Liberty can avoid relegation if they beat Bechem at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park but they have to face the threat of one of the most potent strikers, Abednego Tetteh of Bechem,  who is still battling to be crowned the top scorer of the season.

Equally eager for that honour is Liberty Professionals’ diminutive attacker, Latif Blessing, who is determined to see his side escape relegation. The battle would be reduced to a contest between the two strikers, who have scored 14 goals-apiece this season.

New Edubiase would only be playing for pride in their game against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Bekwai Park because they have already been demoted, while Hearts must fight for victory to ensure they finish in the top 4 bracket.

In other fixtures, Dreams FC would be hoping to crown their season in grand style by beating Dwarfs at the Dawu Park, while Aduana Stars would want to deepen the woes of Inter Allies when they play at the Dormaa-Ahenkro Park.

Hasaacas would host uncrowned champions, Wa All Stars, at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi, and at the Berekum Golden City Park, Chelsea would hope to avoid relegation when they host Techiman City.

Kotoko must beat WAFA at the Baba Yara Stadium to restore confidence in the team after losing heavily against Ashgold (3-5) during their mid-week game, while Ashgold will trek to Tarkwa to battle with Medeama SC.
