Yesterday, Juventus confirmed the player has raptured a meniscus cartilage and has been ruled out of action for six weeks and will undergo surgery this week.

"The extent of the injuries sustained by Daniele Rugani and Kwadwo Asamoah were clarified following medical examinations today," a statement from Juventus’s website stated.

"The tests revealed that Asamoah has ruptured the meniscus cartilage, while Rugani has strained the lateral collateral ligament, both in the right knee.

"Asamoah is expected to undergo surgery with both players anticipated to return within around 45 days."

Asamoah, whose career has been plagued by injury for almost two years and which saw him miss many key matches for the Black Stars, was hoping to return as the the team begin their 2018 World Cup campaign, but the latest injury could affect his return.

He missed most of the Stars’ qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup as well as the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The latest injury is a major setback and will cost him a place in the squad for the double header at home against Uganda on October 2 and away to Egypt on October 7.

Hoping to start the qualifiers on a strong note, Coach Avram Grant was hoping to hand Asamoah a call up following his return from injury last season and now enjoying regular playing time for Juventus this season, which has seen him win ‘player of the match’ twice for the Italian champions.
