Kotoko look to Godwin Ablordey for a lift

Troubled Kumasi Asante Kotoko, after parting ways with their Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic last Sunday, hope to break away from their recent poor form and go for the kill against Wa All Stars in what promises to be an uncompromising Easter Sunday fixture at their dreaded Wa Stadium.

Kotoko, who are presently lying third on the league log and four points adrift of leaders WAFA, have experienced dwindling fortunes after their 0-1 loss to bitter rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Stadium and have since been held to barren draws against Inter Allies and Ebusua Dwarfs in Kumasi, and a 1-2 loss to Medeama SC at Tarkwa.

Followers of the Porcupine Warriors, unhappy with the club’s disappointing performance, were compelled to vent their anger on both Logrusic and the playing body after their match against Dwarfs last Sunday.

The sacking of Logrusic and subsequent appointment of his assistant, Godwin Ablordey, and former Black Meteors coach and Kotoko defender Frimpong Manso as caretaker coaches, are desperate measures the Kotoko management hope would return the club to winning ways and restore their pride on Sunday in Wa.

While Kotoko strive to put their house in order to turn things around, the Wa lads are also trying to get their act together after a poor start to the season. They just returned from Senegal after participating in the WAFU Club Cup and have given a clear indication of their preparedness to stop any opposition, which began with their 1-1 draw with Tema Youth last Monday.

Accra Hearts of Oak are eyeing three straight wins on Sunday after accounting for Bechem United and Ashantigold last week, with struggling Elmina Sharks next in the line of fire for the Phobians who have won their last four home games.

Despite losing to WAFA at home last Sunday, Sharks have been impressive in their debut Premier League campaign and are expected to give Hearts a stiff opposition at the Accra Sports Stadium where the Elmina lads picked a point after holding Great Olympics to a 2-2 draw two months ago.

Hearts coach Frank Nuttall is expected to maintain his winning team, including Thomas Abbey Paul Acquah, Fatau Mohammed, Sam Yeboah, Patrick Razak and  Richard Akrofi to maintain their impressive run.

In the other fixtures, Tom Strand leads struggling Accra Great Olympics to Dansoman in a bid to pull off a surprise  result against Liberty Professionals, Inter Allies will seek to bounce back against bottom club Ashgold at the El Wak Stadium, while Tarkwa-based Medeama SC welcome  Bechem United to the T&A Park.

After drawing twice against Tema Youth and Kotoko, Ebusua Dwarfs will be looking foward to winning against Berekum Chelsea at the Cape Coast Stadium, while league leaders WAFA are favourites to maintain their winning form with victory over Bolga All Stars at Sogakope, where the home side are unbeaten since last season.

Aduana Stars will go for a double header this week. After beating Olympics 2-1 last Monday, Aduana will clear an outstanding match with Wa All Stars tomorrow in Wa and on Sunday return to Dormaa-Ahenkro to play host to  Tema Youth.
