Kotoko face Dreams, Hearts play Medeama

The GHALCA G8 is expected to hot up today after a rather slow start, especially in Group B in Kumasi, with plenty to play for and determinant to those who could possibly inch closer to the semifinal.

Apart from the crazy scoreline between Dwarfs and Medeama in Group A at the Cape Coast Stadium last weekend (Dwarfs 5 Medeama 6) all the other matches, including Hearts and Karela FC, recorded solitary goals; opening up the race for the two teams in each group to make it to the semifinal.

Two sumptuous pairings in Kumasi and Cape Coast could redefine the shape of the pre-season tournament and heighten the interest in the January 6-21 tournament.

Asante Kotoko, who are tipped to open a three point lead at the top of Group B play Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Stadium while Accra Hearts of Oak also engage Medeama in a crunch duel at the Cape Coast Stadium today.

The two pairings would precede Thursday’s other two, between Aduana and Eleven Wonders in Kumasi and Dwarfs against Karela in Cape Coast.

Kotoko, one of Ghana’s two representatives for continental football this year are yet to switch into top gear despite a fairly good performance last Sunday against Eleven Wonders. With an array of stars to choose from, including good-old Jordan Opoku, Ivorian import Sylla Vie Mohammed and Kwame Boahene, Coach Polack could parade one of his strongest team yet to give a foretaste of what fans should expect in the Confederation Cup campaign.

But key to Kotoko’s campaign is Kwame Boahene whose pace and precision at the left flank contributed to the team’s success.

But Coach Polack would still need to keep a watchful eye on defender Wahab Adams, who despite his strength need to be refined else could incur the displeasure of referees.

Kotoko’s likely win and Aduana’s predicted victory against Eleven Wonders a day after would set up one of the biggest preseason clashes on Saturday.

The league champions, Aduana, no doubt, the team with the biggest signing this season, would thrill fans and give Kotoko a good run for their money this weekend.

The action in Cape Coast is expected to be no different as a Heart-Medeama clash would always be big on the local football calendar.
