Kotoko, Dramani close to new deal

Kumasi Asante Kotoko are close to agreeing on a new deal with Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani after he led the club to back-to-back Premier League titles and the MTN FA Cup last season.

A source close to Kotoko’s management disclosed to the Daily Graphic yesterday that the club was on the verge of renewing Coach Dramani’s contract as a number of meetings had already been held with the coach, and that a deal would be reached this week.

“Considering the outcome of the meetings held so far, we are very certain we would meet the demands of Didi for him to lead Asante Kotoko to defend the two trophies we won last year,” the source said, ahead of a meeting between the two parties to finalise a proposed two-year contract.

Coach Dramani won his first Premier League title with Kotoko in his first season in charge two years ago and successfully defended it in addition to winning the FA Cup after two failed attempts in the last three years, a feat that won him over the Kotoko faithful.

Despite his successes in domestic football, Dramani is yet to make any meaningful mark on the continental scene. In his first continental campaign in 2012 Kotoko was booted out by J.S.M Bejaia of Algeria in the preliminary round, while unfancied Liberian side Barrack Young Controllers also put the brakes on the Porcupine Warriors, in the preliminaries this year.

The source said the club’s management was eager to provide the needed motivation to support the coach and also bring on board new signings to strengthen the team for their upcoming domestic and continental campaigns.
