Flashback: George Ashie (right) slugging it out with Emmanuel Tagoe in Accra two years ago

I’ll punish Kamote — Ashie

Hard-hitting boxer, George “The Red Tiger” Ashie, has promised to punish his Tanzanian opponent, Allan Kamote, in the ring on the night of December 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium for the WBO Africa lightweight championship.

Ashie, who has fought 29 times, won 24 with 17 knockouts, lost four and drawn one, told the Graphic Sports he was ready to slug it out with Kamote to the last drop of his blood.

At the Attoh Quarshie Gym in Accra where the boxer had intensified his training regimen, Ashie was emphatic that his Tanzanian opponent would not last the full distance as he aimed to end the fight via the short route.

“People think because he has fought on the international stage he can beat me, but I am well trained for this bout, “Ashie said of his opponent, whose only major international bout saw him lose to Russian Eduard Troyanovsky in Moscow.

That notwithstanding, the Tanzanian is a well exposed fighter, having fought 36 bouts, won 25 (14 knockouts), lost seven and drawn four. But despite coming up against the feared Ashie, fight promoter Alex Ntiamoah Boakye of Box Office Promotions, expects Kamote to “leave an indelible imprint on the minds of Ghanaians” after the bout.

Meanwhile, Ashie’s trainer, Godwin Kotey Djanie, alias Alloway, is confident his boxer will upstage his Tanzanian opponent because he has well prepared to claim the title, having missed a similar opportunity two years ago when he lost to  Emmanuel Tagoe for the vacant WBA International lightweight title.

Despite fighting just once since losing to Tagoe, Alloway dismissed suggestions that his boxer was too rusty to face the more active Kamote.

“Ashie is well trained for this bout and on the D-Day, we shall see,” he told the Graphic Sports.

On the under card of ‘Fist of Fury’ bill are a 12-round WBF Africa light-heavyweight championship fight between Maxwell "Black Wolf" Amponsah and Ebenezer "Upper Cut" Tetteh, while Pride "Octopus" Dzanie fights Michael Barnor for the national and West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) bantamweight championship.

Former national champion, Patrick Allotey will face-off with Isaac Aryee in a 10-round welterweight bout.
