I’ll make weight - Assures Bukom Banku

Cruiserweight pugilist, Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, has vowed to make the weight to fight Bastie "The Beast" Samir on Saturday despite doubts by his opponent's camp that he will weigh above the required limit.

Banku, who has been preparing feverishly to fight Bastie in their "Make of Break" non-title fight at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, said he had been training hard to win the bout and was still confident of finishing off his opponent in round six.

He, however, described Bastie as a "small boy" in the sport who could not last the entire 12 rounds with him in the ring.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports after his open training session at the Bukom Boxing Arena yesterday, Banku said, "I have been training very hard to win this fight and if someone thinks I can't make the weight then we will see."

"I will make the cruiserweight requirement and beat Bastie who, to me, is a small boy in the ring and cannot last the entire rounds with me," he added.

Having won all 29 fights in his career without defeat, Banku stands tall to beat Bastie on Saturday despite the latter’s impressive record of 14 wins and a draw in 15 bouts.

The pair have engaged in a war of words since signing the contract to fight on September 30 before it was later rescheduled to October 21.

Banku's trainer, Biney Geoffery, known in boxing circles as "Wadaada", noted that his camp had prepared so well that losing to Bastie was simply impossible.

He said his boxer was ready to teach his opponent a lesson in the sport and prove to Ghanaians that he was indeed the "African Mayweather".

Wadaada was hopeful that Saturday would be his night despite the rich experience of his opponent's trainer, Ofori Asare, who is touted as an amateur expert.
