After wasting countless goal scoring opportunities, including eight penalty corners, Elizabeth Opoku made amends from her earlier misses when she connected Umaru Nafisatu's pass in the 66th minute to set the stadium alight

Moments after the goal, Kenya attacked from all angles with the view of equalising but the defenders of Ghana stood firm, protecting their lone goal  advantage.

Earlier last Friday, Ghana defeated Nigeria 2-0 in their first match and  Kenya, who did not play last  Friday also beat Nigeria 4-3 to set a thrilling date with Ghana.

With both teams having equal opportunities to qualify, Kenya took the game to Ghana from the start, but the Ghanaians  reamined resilient and held their own against their opponents.

Ghana took over the game with skipper Gertrude Inkoom, Umaru Nafisatu, Janet Adampa and Lydia Afriyie directing affairs, but failed to utilise the glorious chances that came their way.

With the fans urging them on, Ghana continued to fight for the match opener, but it was not until the 66th minute that Elizabeth Opoku responded with the goal that qualified them to the Hockey World League Round 2 tournament.
