Herbert gets GH¢25,000 deal

Veteran coach, Herbert Addo, finally took over the reins of Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday with a lucrative GH¢25,000 signing-on fee and a mandate to win the Premier League title and restore the Phobians to their good old days in Africa.

Addo, who staged a surprise comeback to Hearts last week after turning down another good offer from his former club, Inter Allies, will also be guaranteed a GH¢6,500-a-month salary.

The Hearts offer is about a one-third increase over what he earned at Inter Allies in the past season.

As if that financial package was not enough, a source close to Hearts disclosed to the Graphic Sports that the accomplished trainer would also be entitled to a fat rent allowance and an official four- wheel drive vehicle.

Coach Addo won the league title for Hearts in the 2002/2003 season before moving on to make history in 2010, after winning the premiership with debutantes Aduana Stars.

He again proved the stuff he was made of just last season when he transformed Inter Allies from a relegation-bound side to finish eighth in the First Capital Plus Premier League.

His new stint with Hearts was boosted with the signing of Liberty Professionals’ dependable defender, Alfred Nelson, of the local Black Stars fame.

The coach, who has also been tasked to recapture the league title from rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the coming season, assumed duty on a bright note at the club’s ATTC training grounds yesterday morning, raising the hopes of Hearts fans for a great season.
