Hearts, Kotoko in tricky duels

Week two of the Ghana Premier League promises to live up to expectations with some mouth-watering fixtures involving Accra Hearts of Oak and rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko against Tarkwa-based Medeama SC and Berekum Chelsea in Accra and Berekum resectively.

With the kind of results registered by both teams in their opening games, both Hearts and Kotoko seem not to be ready to let their fans down and will, therefore, go all out to win tomorrow.

Kotoko came back strongly from a goal down to beat Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals, courtesy a brace from their new-found striker, Yakubu Mohammed, but Hearts who played against Inter Allies at the El-Wak Stadium could not tame their regional neighbours, thus splitting the points.

The draw against Inter Allies, to some Hearts followers, was like a loss, hence the need to register their first home win against a tricky Medeama side tomorrow. Hearts yesterday introduced their new scottish coach, Frank Nuttal, who is said to be working with Coach Henry Wellington to transform the rainbow club this season. However, they need to up their game if they are to win back the total support of their faithful, many of whom are unhappy about the dwindling performance of their club in recent times.

If the likes of Inusah Musah, Malik Akowuah, Richard Akrofi, Patrick Razak and Isaac Mensah can put their act together, Medeama, who beat them in Accra last season, could be laughing on the other side of their face tomorrow.

Kotoko, on the other hand, will be boosted by their impressive comeback against Liberty Professionals as they confront bogey side Chelsea at a venue where they suffered from two quick goals from the foot of Saddick Adams last season. With their ‘Deep Squad’ in high spirits, Kotoko could return to Kumasi this time with the three points.

New entrants, Elmina Sharks, with all the support from Groupe Nduom, will play their first ever Premier League match against Aduana Stars at the Nduom Stadium in Elmina, as a result of the postponement of their opening match against Wa All Stars.

WAFA, who are currently in a mourning mood after losing their Technical Director, Sam Arday last Sunday, will want to honour him with a fitting win against Ebusua Dwarfs, who taught Bolga All Stars some premiership lessons with a 3-1 thrashing at the new Cape Coast Stadium last Sunday. Nothing but fireworks is expected at Sogakope as Brazilian coach, Ricardo da Rocha, storms the Volta Region with a mission for points.

In the other fixtures, Liberty Professionals will be at home against Inter Allies in a local derby tomorrow, while AshantiGold host Accra Great Olympics at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium today. Matches between Bolga All Stars versus Wa All Stars, as well as Bechem United versus Tema Youth have been put on hold due to Bechem United and All Stars’ continental commitment tonight and tomorrow respectively.
