Graphic's Samuel Konadu Games - Technical Services are champs

The annual competition, dubbed "Samuel Konadu Cup", saw the Technical Services team win eight events out of 20, amassing 35 points against defending champions G-Pak, who could only manage 19 points to place second.

Newspapers Department came third with 16 points, followed by Finance and Administration, who had 6 points, while Marketing finished fith with 0.5 points.

For the first time in the history of the competition, the winners (Technical Services)  presented female teams for events such as tug-of-war, egg and spoon, which they won.

Aside from winning the playing cards, ludo and tug-of-war (for both men and women), the  Technical Services team also won the five-a-side football gala after defeating fellow contenders G-Pak 1-0 in the final.

While G-Pak beat Marketing 3-0 to reach the final, Technical Services wallopped Newspapers Department 2-0 on penalties after playing 1-1 in regulation time.

The most interesting event on the day was the 'eating from a string' category, which attracted loud cheers from the crowd as the competitors struggled to take a bite of apples tied to strings and hanged  on a pole.

For their reward, the winners took home a giant trophy for the overall best team, medals and cash prizes, as well as souvenirs.

Children were not left out of the fun-packed games as they were treated to activities such as the ‘bouncy castle’ and ‘photo shoot’.

Earlier in the morning, participants embarked on a walk along some principal streets of the El-Wak Stadium before they were lectured on healthy lifestyles by Dr Jojo Essel of the Mum's Health Club in Accra.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Managing Director of the GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, hinted that the company had constructed a volleyball and badminton courts at the Graphic Press House and were hoping to add a thread mill by April and urged workers of the company to take advantage of the facility to exercise for healthy living.
