GRA maintain lead in Sapholda Hockey League

League leaders, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), maintained their grip on the Sapholda Hockey League by whipping fifth-placed Reformers 7-2 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra last Saturday.

By that victory, GRA increased their points build-up to 23 from nine matches played, scoring 46 goals in the process and conceding only eight.

Goal poacher Nick Hanson was the toast of the fans and a torn in the flesh of Reformers. His combination in attack with Ernest Opoku, Charles Moses and Prince Asrifie proved a handful for Reformers as Hanson hit the back of the net on three occasions to prove his worth as a potent striker.

Opoku, Moses, Asrifie and Anthony Aikings scored a goal each for GRA before Emmanuel Lamptey scored twice for Reformers in the one-sided-match which attracted good patronage.

Earlier last Saturday, second-placed Exchequers (18 points) held third-placed Trustees (17 points) to a 1-1 draw. It was Selorm Kemevor from Exchequers who broke the deadlock midway into the game, but Samuel Afrifa equalised for Trustees to share the points.

In the ladies division, GRA added Extinguishers to their list of victims with a 3-0 victory for their seventh straight win.

Vivian Najuor scored a brace, while Lydia Afriyie scored the other goal to give GRA a resounding victory to take their impressive record to 49 goals scored with none conceded.

In the other matches, Police defeated Ark 7-1 in the men’s division, while Golden Sticks and Citizens International shared the points with a 2-2 draw.

Real Ambassadors Ladies however bowed to Ark Ladies 0-2, with Rachael Tawia and Eleanor Otoo scoring the goals to collect the maximum points for their side.

Kasoa Heroes and Real Ambassadors settled for a 1-1 draw in the men’s division, while Tema Manhean defeated Ark Boys 2-1 in the youth division.
