GOC’s £36,900 events tickets go waste
Over £36, 900 , used to purchase event tickets for sale to Ghanaian fans for the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, appeared to have become a wasteful venture.

The tickets, purchased by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), seemed not to have been fully utilised following the poor attendance by fans and delegates at the venues — a possible case of financial loss to the state.
Documents available to the GNA Sports, indicate that the amount covered 1,065 event tickets meant for fans from Ghana and in the United Kingdom, as well as delegates.
However, visits to some of the venues by the GNA Sports, revealed that only a few Ghanaians patronised the games, with most of them being members of Ghana’s official delegation.
A visit to the Clyde Auditorium, where two Ghanaian weightlifters competed, saw only a handful of Ghanaians, mainly officials, from the technical, medical and management team.
However, the documents in the custody of the GNA Sports shows that a total of 123 tickets were purchased by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for Ghanaians for the weightlifting event.
According to the information, 99 Type A, 24 Type B, 64 Category One and 59 Category Two, tickets, at a total cost of £2,540 were purchased for the weightlifting competition, but less than 20 Ghanaians were at the venue to support Nii Dodoo and Christian Amoah in the men 77Kg category of weightlifting.
At the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre Hall 4A, where Ghanaian boxers have been competiting, only a handful of Ghanaians were there to support the nation’s boxers, out of the total of 233 tickets purchased at the cost of £6,235. —GNA.
