Esse Akida shot the Harambee Starlets of Kenya ahead in the first half with an explicit volley after indecision in the Black Queens defence.

However, three second half goals from Samira Suleman, Elizabeth Addo and Portia Boakye saw off the Kenyans to give the Black Queens victory.

Queens head coach Yusif Basigi said he was relieved to have secured his first three points of the tournament ahead of their game against Nigeria who also went past Mali with six goals.

“I anticipated that it was going to be a difficult game. Lo and behold, we went down in the first half and I had to go back into the dressing room to get the ladies back on track and get them do what I wanted on the field.”

“I’m so relieved because winning your first game is always paramount.” He said.

The Black Queens are chasing their first ever trophy at this level.
