Ghana will host Benin and Togo in this year's tournament slated for April 30 to May 7 in Accra, with Niger, Burundi and Lesotho set to host their respective editions at later dates.

Benin will engage Togo in the second encounter next Wednesday before the host locks horns with Togo on May 7 in a crunch fixture.

Steve Noi (Tournament Coordinator), Mr Alain Koubé (Match Commissioner) and Mr Guédel N’Diaye (Judicial Officer) will serve as officials of the tournament.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the president of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Herbert Mensah, said he was hopeful of Team Ghana making an impact on the competition.

He added that his outfit’s decision to host the competition was to improve the team ahead of other international competitions in the future.

Mr Mensah tipped Togo as favourites but said Team Ghana’s participation will be a boost to the nation’s quest to help generate interest in the sport.

“We decided to allow Team Ghana to host the competition because it will help improve the team for future international events,” Mr Mensah said.

“Even though Togo are favourites to win it, we feel the competition is a boost for generating interest for the sport,” he added.
