GFA prez meets GHALCA executive

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, will today meet the parties in the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) feud ahead of a scheduled General Assembly meeting on April 16.

Some executives of GHALCA have been unhappy with the failure of the association to account for $9,000 it borrowed to pay Enugu Rangers  for playing in the President Cup, an amount the club claims was never paid to them. 

The Daily Graphic has learnt that the meeting is to try to find an amicable solution to the conflict in GHALCA which has sharply divided the executive council’s front, with the beleaguered chairman, Alhaji Ali Raji, the treasurer, and George Amoako (who have been asked to resign) on  one side, against  Isaac Koomson (vice chairman), Albert Commey, Kofi Poku and Samuel Aboabiri, aka Kata, on the other side. John Ansah, the seventh member, is also on the side of the chairman.

Last week, members of the association agreed that a General Assembly be called to discuss the $9,000 saga that is tearing the GHALCA apart, but the chairman tried to stop the meeting from being convened, insisting he had the mandate to call the General Assembly.

However, a source close to the Koomson group yesterday told the Daily Graphic that irrespective of what would happen at today’s meeting with the GFA president, the General Assembly would be convened as planned.

“After the revelations from the $9,000 saga, it is important that the entire membership is briefed on what has happened. The issue should not rest with the executive council which is now obviously divided,” the source said. 

Some members of the GHALCA yesterday confirmed to the Daily Graphic that they supported the decision to call for a General Assembly meeting.
