George Lutterodt supports Homowo wrestling

Former Ghana athletics chief, George Haldane Lutterodt, has donated GH¢1,000 to the executive of the Greater Accra Wrestling Association (GAWA) in support of their Homowo wrestling matches.

The donation took place at his office last Friday where the president of the association, George Mankatah, and some executive members officially requested Mr Lutterodt to become a life patron of the association.

Mr Mankatah acknowledged the financial and logistical support provided by Mr Lutterodt for fencing, athletics, netball and weightlifting in recent times and also recalled his numerous financial support to Nigerian athletes, weightlifters, as well as the Ghana para-athletes team.

He wished him divine blessings and appealed to him to support GAWA and its operations since it was a new addition to the Ghana sporting family.

For his part, Mr Lutterodt maintained that in his own personal capacity, he would do his best for the lesser-known sporting disciplines in the country by providing them with the basic logistics and equipment as his widow’s mite.

The veteran sports administrator lamented the neglect of other sports in favour of football in the country, saying that practice must cease before it reached the tipping point.

The visit by the executives, led by Mr Mankatah, was also to invite the sports advocate to the upcoming Homowo wrestling bouts in Tema and Accra.
