FIFA U-17 World Cup: Ministry to facilitate supporters trip to India

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has promised to facilitate the trip of a conglomerate of supporters unions, Alliance of Ghana Supporters, to India to rally behind the national U-17 team during the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

According to the Sports Minister, Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, he had earlier assured the various supporters unions of his outfit's support if they were able to unite under one umbrella body, a requirement they fulfilled for the first time during the final of 2017 WAFU Cup last Saturday.

Indeed, so impressed was the minister by the supporters’ output on the day that he believes the Alliance of Ghana Supporters played a vital role in the Black Stars B’s 4-1 thumping of Nigeria to claim the WAFU Cup and could play a similar key role to help the Starlets to return to Ghana with the FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy.

"This country needs to support our national team in India. The country needs to have support for them and boost their morale which is done by every country,” Mr Asiamah told the Daily Graphic at the inauguration of the Board of Directors of the National Sports Authority yesterday.

"We will provide the facilitation to our supporters on their travel arrangements; that is why the Ministry is there. That one we will do to ensure that they go out there and cheer our players so that they can win gold.

"If you want gold, you need to do some investment. We are trying to secure private funding for this and when it becomes necessary to support them, why not? It is a national assignment."
