Fans jeer at Ashgold, Kotoko

Two former Premier league champions, AshantiGold and Asante Kotoko, yesterday sold out an apparent match of convenience, producing eight goals in their penultimate league encounter at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.

AshantiGold won 5-3 but the performance of the two sides, especially the home team, angered their fans most of whom left the stadium after the winning goal.

The Miners created a false impression of themselves with a 16th minute opener through Emmanuel Osei Baffour's spot kick but Kotoko responded with two quick goals by Eric Donkor and Obed Owusu in the 18th and 22nd minutes respectively.

However, Ashgold’s  Shafiu Mumuni equalised in the 50th minute from a fast break but Kwame Boateng put Kotoko ahead in the 54th minute to silence the home crowd.

Thereafter, the drama unfolded as the two sides literally beckoned each other whenever the need arose to score.

Emmanuel Osei scored with ease a minute later to make it 3-3 as the fans started to walk out of the Len Clay stadium.

And as the picture of a fixed match became even more apparent, Dauda Mohammed connected from Osei's second spot kick after the ball ricochetted off the cross bar to make it 4-3.

In a rather embarrassing spectacle greeted with shouts of "more money" by the home fans, apparently indicating that the match was fixed, Amos Addai made it 5-3 for Ashgold with a simple tap as the Kotoko defenders were caught ball-watching.

• Tarkwa-based Medeama SC  yesterday taught Accra Hearts of Oak some football lessons, and topping it up with a lone goal when the two sides met in their penultimate Premier League match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The goal was scored by midfielder Akwasi Donsu in the 81st minute.
