Extinguishers, Police, GRA Ladies march on

ExtinguisherS, Police and GRA Ladies last Saturday turned the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium into a slaughtering ground by pummelling their opponents as the Sapholda Hockey League gathered momentum.

While Extinguishers Ladies were merciless against Real Ambassadors with an emphatic 6-0 win, Police Ladies outlined their determination to upstage GRA Ladies from the top of the league table `with a 4-0 thumping of Ark Ladies to retain the second position .

League leaders GRA Ladies also proved too strong for Reformers Ladies by defeating them 4-0.

Goals by Juliana Darkuah (3rd minute ) Rachel Bamfo (25th min) Regina De Veer (26th min) Cecilia Apafo (52nd, 59th) and Rebecca Boye (65th) gave Extinguishers Ladies the maximum points in a one-sided match against Real Ambassadors.

In the match between Police Ladies and Ark Ladies, it was Martha Sarfoa (29th) Cecilia Amoako (54th) Serwaa Boakye (55th) and Cecilia Ofoe who won the day for Police, while GRA Ladies rode on strikes from Elizabeth Opoku (seventh) Cynthia Clement (53rd) Deborah Whyte (56th) and Philipa Seddoh to silence Reformers.

However, in the men’s division, league leaders GRA were held to a 1-1 draw by Exchequers, while Trustees shared the points with Police in a 2-2 drawn game.

It was Kwesi Anim Assa who opened the scoring for GRA in the 17th minute, but Exchequers fought gallantly and scored the equaliser through Emmanuel Ankomah in the 36th minute.

In the juvenile category, Young Financiers went down 0-4 to Ark Boys in a thrilling match. William Joseph (20th) Kelvin Owusu (40th) James Awuah (55th) and Joseph Neequah (66th) were the heroes for Ark Boys as their beautiful strikes won the day against Financiers.
