Don't blame Hasaacas' relegation on my multi task - Basigi

Yusif Basigi has rejected claims that his multi task as head coach of Hasaacas Ladies and Ghana's senior female national team, the Black Queens, is the cause of the relegation of Sekondi Hasaacas, which he also handles.

According to Basigi, inadequate preparation for the season, as well as financial challenges, were the main cause and so it was very unfair for his other assignments to be blamed for the club's exit from the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

In trying to analyse what went wrong with Hasaacas, observers had blamed Basigi for not devoting enough time to Hasaacas as he had to also spend time, with the ladies' team, as well as with the Black Queens.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Basigi, who two seasons ago saved Hasaacas from relegation, said the team's main problem was the poor pre-season they had as it affected their start in the competition and by the time they could recover, it was difficult to catch up with the other teams who made a good start.

"Of course, as the captain of the ship, I take responsibility for what has happened, but I also believe that we all know what the real cause is. Pre-season for every team is crucial and we all saw it in the new champions, Wa All Stars' performance.

"It will be very unfair for anyone to say that my other assignments with Hasaacas Ladies and the Black Queens are the cause as that did not affect my job in anyway.

"Black Queens did not take me away from my main job unnecessarily while I have capable assistants at Hasaacas Ladies who handled the team all season. I've done this multi-tasking all these years since I took charge two seasons ago, and my employers were fully aware of my other commitments," Basigi, explained.

Asked if he was going to walk away from the job, Basigi said he had not thought of that and it was also dependent on his employers, but if he would be allowed to stay, his focus would be to get Hasaacas back to the GPL as quickly as possible.
