Toronto's chances of progressing to the season finale looked all but over after their Canadian rivals surged into a 3-0 lead, but two goals in the final 25 minutes gave them something to play for in the second leg.

The game was delayed for 30 minutes as the lines marking out the penalty area had to be repainted, but once the action got under way Dominic Oduro and Matteo Mancosu put Impact 2-0 up inside 12 minutes, with Ambroise Oyongo adding a third shortly after the restart.

However, quickfire strikes from Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley gave Toronto the crucial away goals, making it all to play for.

In the Western Conference final first leg, Seattle Sounders took a narrow 2-1 advantage over Colorado Rapids.

Former Republic of Ireland international Kevin Doyle gave the Rapids an early lead but the Sounders - heavy favourites to progress - turned it around thanks to Jordan Morris' tap-in and Nicolas Lodeiro's penalty.

Colorado and Seattle meet again on Sunday while Montreal travel to Toronto for the second leg next Wednesday.
