Disclaimer: ‘No promise of Estate Houses for ’63 squad’
Kuuku Dadzie, a member of the 1978 Black Stars that won the African Cup of Nations for the third time, has called on the government to fulfill a promise made to them by the then Head of State, General Kutu Acheampong, for winning the trophy.

Dadzie told GNA Sports he and his colleagues were promised estate houses by the then Head of State but this did not materialise due to the overthrow of Acheampong’s government by General F.W.K. Akuffo.
According to Dadzie, the promise was made to them by the Head of State at his residence at Burma Camp, after the trophy was presented to him.
“We have since then demanded for the said promise to be fulfilled but no one seems to listen to us”, Kuuku Dadzie stated.
Dadzie, however, refuted claims by members of the 1963 squad that they were promised estate houses, insisting that the records available showed that it was only the 1978 squad that was promised estate houses by the then government.
“With the recent claim by our seniors in the 1963 squad I felt it was significant to come out and set the records straight since some facts were twisted”, he contended.
Dadzie, said it was not his intention to scuttle the efforts of his senior colleagues in demanding their due, but was not impressed by attempts to single out the 1963 squad as the only side that were denied rewards from the government.
He said, the Retired National Football Association of Ghana (RENFAG) had over the years been fighting the cause of all members of the Black Stars from 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 and wondered why the 1963 wanted preferential treatment.
